Gellért Hill towers 235 meter above the Danube river and is part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites along with the Banks of Danube in Pest from Liberty Bridge to Margaret Island and offers some of the best spots to take photos of the city.
At the top of the hill, you will find the Citadella with its stunning 360 panoramic view of the city and the famous Statue of Liberty (Szabadság szobor) visible from almost every spot in Budapest.

From legends about witches that visited the hill every night riding on the back of human beings to bishop Gellért (Gerard), that came to Hungary from Italy to help convert the Hungarians to Christianity and was rolled down the hill in a barrel into the Danube in 1046 by resisting pagans, after whom the hill is named.
Gellért Hill is located in the 1st and the 11th districts, an affluent area where several embassies and ambassadorial residences line the roads that wind up the hill. What makes the views from it spectacular is that from this altitude and position above the Danube both sides of the city (Buda and Pest) are magnificently spread below.
